Mark, that's great. If done with a just a little bit of responsibility & accountability, I bet some really cool ideas/solutions could be discovered. Best of luck!

Treva, it was a great experience. Looking forward to an opportunity to work with OhioHealth and CME+I in the future...Seems like great things are possible for both groups.

Like the idea of wearable technology! Would love to keep tabs on my health in real-time to better understand how small behaviors affect by overall health.

Question though: Any chance these types of technology will be integrated into our smartphones so there is no need to carry an additional device in our pocket?

This is a very interesting product and could be a great tool for consumers. I have three considerations. Is there an ability to select more than one disease state with this tool? Many patients have multiple diseases and could benefit from being able to select more than one condition. Also, portion considerations are extremely important with almost any food choice. Often, packaging quantifies in ounces which may not be a measurement easily recognizable for patients. If the tool also had a function allowing conversion of portion size into cups, teaspoons, etc., this could enhance the utility. Finally, I assume that UPC codes on fruits and vegetables (fresh) can also be scanned? If these food choices are excluded, few heathcare professionals would identify this as a helpful tool.

Great tool! I agree scanning individual items, one-by-one, will quickly become time-consuming and burdensome. If I were to use it, I would love to have a "mode" of this tool that identifies/recos products I should consider, aisle-by-aisle. So, if I am shopping by a list of things my doctor thinks I should buy for my new diet, I am gathering those ingredients but I have this app on "show me what's new" mode. While I am shopping, my app knows what aisle I am in, or I choose and select the aisle I am in on my phone, and it pulls up product recos of things I should consider buying and using.

[...] Leigh Household, of IQ, is more positive: “The FDA’s perspective on what brands can and should do online is really progressive – and, it sounds a lot like some of the conversations that happened on the floor of those hearings. The challenge they’re facing, of course, is how to adequately act on it.” http://www.whatsyourdigitaliq.com/inside-the-fdas-first-ever-social-media-guidance-is-a-really-produ...
This is actually one of the most succinct, on-target pieces I've read. Nice job.

Dave, thanks for reading and commenting. I couldn't agree with you more. In 2011 I actually canceled several online accounts, including Facebook, because of my personal concerns with their privacy policies. I'll most likely go back to these accounts in 2012 as their policies are updated. However, moving forward, I plan on staying wary too.

Good compilation Ben. When it comes to security of our personal information, digital consumers will need to become more aware of risks and personally involved in protecting their own data assets. These stories suggest a need to be wary- even with "trusted" brands.
