About this experiment
Our new iPads were instantly filled with great consumer tools that made so many things easier or more fun. It’s a powerful technology, but one that was relatively unapplied in healthcare. We started thinking about ways the iPad could make everyday interactions better.
One question we asked: Are 15 minutes in the exam room ever really enough to treat and manage a chronic illness? To create the best care plan, physicians need to understand that daily journey – both how the patient feels and what she’s doing for daily pain management
In this concept, we use native features of the iPad – like the accelerometer and bluetooth – to create a better patient journaling or patient diary tool.
People living with chronic pain launch the app once a day. They rate their mood and pain. They do simple range of motion tests like moving a ball over a mountain to test their relative dexterity. Then, they sync all their bluetooth monitoring devices – like glucose monitors, scales or pedometers – to enter their adherence and wellness behavior. The result is a detailed dashboard that they can view, share with their physician or append to their electronic medical record.
