To Blog, or not to Blog – Study of Fortune 500

A study by the Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth noted that it’s slow going among Fortune 500 companies regarding blogs.

The Fortune 500 and Social Media:  A Longitudinal Study of Blogging and Twitter Usage by America’s Largest Companies conducted by Nora Ganim Barnes, Ph.D., Eric Mattson CEO, Financial Insite, shows that:

  • 22% of Fortune 500 have a corporate facing blog with a post in the past 12 months
  • 90% of those blogs take comments
  • 45% of the Inc. 500 have active corporate blogs

At the time of the survey, there were 11 pharma companies on the Fortune 500 list, but only three had blogs.

A huge opportunity?  Or a cautionary tale?
